The Summer+ Youth Media Mentors Program
provides media literacy education, professional and
personal development to students of various ages through
hands-on experience developing, producing, editing,
screening and discussing original media projects.
College students participate in an intensive
film-production workshop with Industry Masters. They,
in turn, train to be Media Mentors themselves and
lead workshops for younger students from community-based
organizations. Through its first two seasons, the
program is serving some 50 students from the region.
The Media Mentors Difference
Across the country, there are many tuition-based
training programs for youth interested in media studies.
However, our program seeks to provide the same quality
experience to students and youth here in Delaware
who would otherwise not be able to afford this experience.
Youth attend for free and college level students receive
a stipend for their participation.
As they create and disseminate their
own works, the knowledge and skills acquired by participants
will have a ripple effect in communities where these
students live and study by providing new outlets and
voices for important discussion.
